Don't take life for granted

A good moment can be turned bad so quickly. If you’re lucky enough to have a roof to live under, clean water to drink, have your health, have a family, friends, or any reason whatsoever to smile, then do it because there are people who don’t get a choice in the type of life they’re given. And chances are the ones that are complaining are much better off than those who are not. Learn to accept and love the cards that you’ve been dealt. Even when you can’t find good reason for them. Whether your living your life on a constant adventure, slaving yourself away at work, or from the inside of a hospital room – you get to breathe this air and you get to interact with people – something you can’t really do when you’re 6 feet under. You were chosen to be here for a reason, a purpose, and if you search deep enough, you will see that you have reasons for feeling lucky and blessed. In the points of life that you DO have control over, work hard to be where you want. And treat/congratulate yourself when you get there. Don’t stop when you’re tired, stop when you’re done. -Anastasyia Guzchenko

  1. Thank you for sharing. It’s all in how we decide to look at the cards as they fall. I am a firm believer that there is always a bright side to everything. Positive in = positive out.

Cancer in general is surrounded by negativity, if we allow it, it would easily consume us and promote the decline in the progression of the disease. For instance, the dreaded “I’ve lost all my hair” it’s just hair and we all know it will grow back. Personally, I like the changes that come with having no hair on my head; I save so much time, no styling, no expensive hair appointments, or products. Honestly my life is easier with no hair, no eyelashes or eyebrows. I am a what you see is what you get kind of person, so for me no wig and never ever would I draw on eyebrows.

It’s the little things in life that matter, all we have to do is look around us and we will see the many blessings that normally we would take for granted.

Thank you cancer for the good you bring out in me and in so many others. I’m overwhelmed at times by the kindness, generosity and prayers that I have witnessed since you came into my life July ’15.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I thought I was the only one looking forward to a changed head. This is kind of strange given my hair vanity. I had thick, really long hair (can you feel the love?) Anyway, as of today’s shower, I am almost all bald and look like a zombie with those little pieces that are hanging on. I have an appointment to have it shaved, but looks like it will really all be gone by then. I am looking forward to wearing colorful scarves when I go out as per my love of intense color, but no wigs allowed. While I am thinking about painting on my eyebrows, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll forgo it. My eyebrows were naturally getting thinner before the cancer and I filled in the gaps using a pencil and giving it a feathered look, meant to look like real hair. I agree that cancer is negative and there ARE blessing embedded in it, but we have to look for them and sometimes we have to look HARD.

  2. I agree, we are all here for a reason and sometimes it’s for others and sometimes the things we experience are for US. It’s the reason I started writing about my cancer experience. I’m writing for myself and hope others might find something in my words that will help them on their journey.
